Pet Cooling in the Coachella Valley Summer
That Coachella Valley Summer is right around the corner, and we’re already breaking heat records. From Palm Springs to Coachella, thoughts are turning to how to keep cool. From taking a dip in the pool to an ice cold glass of lemonade, changins clothes to cranking up the air conditioning, humans have a ton of options for keeping cool here in the desert.
Our pets, on the other hand, are a bit more limited in this regard. With tempuratures regularly in triple digits, heat stroke is a very real concern for Coachella Valley pet owners. There are always some great articles on this topic in local papers and magazines, and the tips are fantastic. Here are a few more on pet cooling:
- Never leave your pets in a parked car. Ever. Not even for a minute. Seriously, never.
- Make sure your pets has more than ample water to drink throughout the day It’s a good idea to have two large water bowls in case one spills (and it’s always better to have too much than not enough). Make sure the bowls are in the shade all day. Dogs don’t cool down like we do, and need lots of water.
- Doggie pool so your dog can take a dip Geting wet is great way for a dog to cool down, and most of them love splashing around or just lounging in shallow water.
- Keep the doghouse in the shade A doghouse in the sunshine can bocome an oven pretty quickly.
- Walk your dog in the early morning or at night when the pavement has cooled Remember, dogs don’t wear shoes. We may not notice how hot the sidewalk is, but you can bet they do!
